On 12 September 2026, Anna Rumyantseva, Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs at Saint Petersburg University of Management Technologies and Economics (UMTE), took part as a keynote speaker in the 7th International Conference on Progressive Education, organised by the University of Lampung, Indonesia.
In 2026, the conference was held under the theme “Sustainable Innovation in Education: Advancing Science, Technology, and the Arts to Enhance Global Competitiveness.” The discussions focused on educational innovation, digital technologies and artificial intelligence, the development of global competencies, sustainable education, language communication, and the internationalisation of higher education.
During the plenary session, Anna Rumyantseva delivered a presentation entitled “Internationalisation of Education in Russia: Current Challenges and Relevant Solutions.” Her presentation addressed current trends in the development of international cooperation among Russian universities, key challenges facing the internationalisation of higher education, and the search for new forms of cooperation with international partners.
The visit to the University of Lampung also included working meetings with representatives of the partner university. During the discussions, the parties considered further development of joint educational and research initiatives. Particular attention was paid to the continuation of collaborative online projects. Among the prospective areas of cooperation are a series of online lectures on English language teaching, the use of artificial intelligence in translation, economic cooperation between Russia and Indonesia, as well as the further development of international academic mobility programmes.
Cooperation between UMTE and the University of Lampung has been developing since 2023. The universities have a cooperation agreement and an academic mobility agreement in place, both signed on 7 July 2023. In spring 2025, UMTE welcomed students from the University of Lampung for the first time for a semester-long exchange programme. During the current semester, four students from Indonesia are studying at UMTE.
In addition, the spring semester saw the successful implementation of the international student forum “Linguoculture: Education Without Borders,” which brought together participants from Russia and Indonesia, as well as a series of online lectures on current issues in foreign language teaching and intercultural communication.
